Lots of cricket action as local T10 league gets underway

Date: 07 November 2025 By: Andries van Zyl

The next round of matches in the Louis Trichardt Cricket Club’s second T10 league, which kicked off last weekend, were decided at the Louis Trichardt Oval on Sunday, 2 November. Three games were scheduled, but the third game between Limpopo and RCI had to be abandoned in the afternoon due to rain.

Limpopo Dairy, however, managed to get in some game time in the first match of the day against the Spartans. Limpopo won the toss and elected to bowl, sending the Spartans in to bat.

The Spartans' batsmen clawed their way to 64 runs for the loss of three wickets (64/3) in their allotted ten overs, with opener Paul Kruger contributing the most runs - 38 (not out) from 27 balls, which included four fours and one six. Jarome Koekemoer also made it to double figures, scoring 14 runs. For Limpopo, Joubert Fourie took two wickets for the loss of 12 runs in two overs (2/12/2), while Phindulo Tshivhase took 1/5/2.

Limpopo’s batsmen wasted no time at the crease, taking on the bowling attack from the first ball. AJ Fourie scored a quick 12 runs from just 5 balls before losing his wicket, but Juandro (Jnr) Kruger and Gerhardus Fourie went on to score 23 and 28 not out, respectively, steering Limpopo to a nine-wicket win with a score of 65/1. The only Spartans bowler to claim a scalp was Jarome Koekemoer, who took 1/13/1.

In the second match of the day, the Legends came up against Maebani, with the Legends winning the toss and electing to bat.

Legends’ Craig Viljoen was in devastating form, bludgeoning 101 (retired) runs from only 32 balls. His innings included seven fours and ten sixes. Apart from this century, fellow opener Lukas Visser scored a half-century of 51 runs from only 22 balls, which included four fours and five sixes, before losing his wicket. Thanks to these two double-figure contributions, the Legends finished on a score of 172/2 in their 10 overs and set Maebani a daunting target of 173 for victory. For Maebani, bowler Omphulusa Matshisevha took 1/39/2.

Maebani opener Dalla Rayhaan kept his team's hopes alive with an unbeaten 41 runs from just 26 balls, which included three fours and one six. However, the wickets kept falling around him, and Maebani only managed 76 runs for the loss of four wickets before running out of overs. The only other batsman to reach double figures was Ligaraba Thakhani (12). In addition to two run-outs, Nathan Viljoen (Jnr) and Rudie Swanepoel took 1/15/2 and 1/24/2, respectively.

This weekend, five matches will be played at the Louis Trichardt Oval. On 8 November at 13:30, Limpopo Dairy will face Sinthimule, and at 15:30, the Legends will come up against RCI. On 9 November at 10:40, Sinthimule will take to the field against Legends, followed by Limpopo taking on Maebani at 13:30. At 15:30, the Spartans will face off against Legends.

Spectators are welcome to support the games. A cash bar and kiosk are available, but please note that no own cooler boxes are allowed.
